Vera Beamer Wins First Runner-Up in Pageant
GLADSTONE, Missouri — Vera Beamer, a resident of Gladstone’s Linden Woods Village (a continuing care retirement community), was named first runner-up on August 27 for the MHCA Ms. Missouri Nursing Home Pageant.
In July, Vera won the District One competition (Kansas City area) and was sent to the state competition in Branson, MO. Along with six other contestants, Vera was interviewed for five minutes and answered questions regarding her family, life, and the subject of joy. When asked about why Vera exuded so much joy in life, Vera said, “Everyone has good and bad in them. But you find joy when you look for the good in others instead of the bad.”
When all contestants were interviewed, the judges decided Vera would be the Ms. Missouri Nursing Home Pageant first runner-up. Danytra Hughes, executive director of Linden Woods Village, said, “We are so proud of Vera; she is a wonderful resident and never ceases to amaze the Linden Woods Village team.”
Vera has returned to Linden Woods Village where she will continue to volunteer for the concierge on the weekends and visit recovering patients in the rehab wing.
